Time For Everything!

It continually amazes me, as I get older, how time flies by.  It seems like this year just got started, and already it’s the end of March. The days, and the weeks rush by at lightning speed. And I have so many plans for my life that I never seem to have enough time to complete. Important plans that I feel need to be done. Goals that I’ve been trying to reach for years now. Time is the relentless enemy of these good intentions.

And then there are the everyday goals that should be a part of each person’s life.  For instance, having more time to read God’s Word and other good books. And praying to the Lord for wisdom and guidance for the week ahead should make it on that list as well.   I need to exercise more too, for my health. Then, of course, there is spending more time with my family, whom I don’t seem to see enough.

However, did it ever occur to you that, though we never seem to have the proper time for all that we want to do, there is always time enough for what God wants for us in life?  He is the one who has given us our life. And He has a plan for each of us that He has allowed every person the time to do. If He thinks we need a certain number of years to complete that plan, He has already allotted them to us.  And He will not take us from this earth one second sooner than He wishes for us to be here to fulfill His mission.  I love the beautiful poem found in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 talking about time. It says:

There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.

Our God is indeed the one who is in control of our lives and our time.  So, the next time you think that you will never get all the stuff done that needs to be completed, just remember the One who is in control of our minutes, days, months and years. He has given us the gift of time. And there is always enough of that precious commodity to accomplish His will, if we will but allow Him to work His plans for us and not ours.

Until one day, at the end of this world, we will enter eternity, where there will be no more time. Then we can continue serving the Lord, doing His will without interruption. What a glorious day that will be!!
